Barrier Creams protect the skin against irritation from body fluids. Barrier products are available either as films or creams. Barrier films are available as sprays, wipes or foam applicators. They dry quickly forming a waterproof protective barrier and can be applied to broken skin. Barrier creams are available in sachets or tubes. As well as acting as a barrier , creams can also moisturise. Barrier products should be removed prior to re-applying to avoid build-up which can result in skin damage.
Sorbaderm barrier cream is used to protect intact skin from damage by body fluids. It creates a long-lasting waterproof barrier that acts as an interface between the skin and other bodily fluids. It also offers moisture to improve skin integrity. This cream can be used both on intact and damaged skin. It decreases the risk of maceration and skin tripping from adhesive devices. The cream does not decrease the adhesion of medical bandage tapes or dressings that are placed over the treated area. This cream does not contain alcohol and provides 72 hours of skin protection. It is latex-free and waterproof. It is used in the areas of incontinence skin treatment, peri-stomal skin protection, peri-wound skin protection, and protection against adhesive trauma.
