Hydrocolloids are primarily composed of Carboxymethyl cellulose and provide a moist wound healing environment. They form a gel in the presence of exudate thereby creating a moist environment and promoting autolytic debridement of dry, sloughy or necrotic wounds.They are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, thicknesses and with or without an adhesive border.Hydrocolloid dressings are suitable for use on superficial burns, leg ulcers,pressure ulcers,granulating or necrotic wounds and low exuding wounds.
DuoDerm® dressing is a hydrocolloid dressing designed for the treatment of pressure sores, pressure ulcers, and decubitus ulcers. The hydrocolloid dressing has gel-like properties to help absorb the secretions from the wounds and protect them from wound debris and other infection-causing bacteria. This dressing is impermeable to water vapour, oxygen and bacteria. It does not stick with the wound bed and can be removed easily without tearing the granulation tissue. DuoDerm can be easily placed on the wet wounds or the wet surrounding skin. It is applied to the wounds that produce light to medium exudate or transudate. It also helps the wound to automatically debride itself. It can be used as a primary or secondary dressing.
